The Black Halos

Dec. 16/2004:

I've been asked by some people about putting up a messageboard. It would seem that some people like that sort of format. The Halos are never one to let down so I've put one up. Go there and post away to your heart's content about anything you like. All the Halos will be there to post replies and just shoot the breeze with you. Cheers. Oh, and chances are I'll be too hungover to update this on Christmas so I'll say it now. MERRY X-MAS FROM ALL OF US TO ALL OF YOU!!!

Dec. 7/2004:

I've been asked about new photos of the band with our newest addition Adam Becvare on guitar as well as photos from the Zeke/Halos tour and, yes, I've got photos and will post them as soon as I can! There are links on the internet to some photos from various shows but I will get around to setting them up on this site to check out. Also, people have been emailing me about "Somethings Never Fall" being heard on the Ashlee Simpson show and yes it has been played on there and we're all having a good laugh over it. And last but certainly not least, you will be able to read Billy's tour diary of the recent Zeke/Halos tour in an upcoming issue of Razorcake. And in case you need more of a Billy fix there will be an interview with him in an upcoming issue of Varla. When the magazines come out I'll post here and let you know how you might be able to get a hold of them. Cheers!

Dec. 5/2004:

We're back from tour and we want to thank everybody that came out for any of the shows! We had a great time and the shows were all pretty much amazing! We want to send out a big thank you to Adam Payne who drove us around, kept things in check, and kept us laughing the entire trip!! We also want to send out major thanks to Donny, Marky and Jeff from Zeke for taking us out with them. And in bigger news, we've finally secured ourselves a new record deal with a new up and coming label called Liquor and Poker. They are part of the Century Media empire and we're happy to be with them and the good company we're keeping with the likes of The Hellacopters, Hanoi Rocks, Crash Kelly, Nebula and The Bones. Now it's time for us to record a new record and get it out by the spring/summer of 2005!! Keep checking back to this site for more news!

Oct. 13/2004:

We've finally got the dates for the big Canadian Zeke/Black Halos tour!! Check out the shows page for all the info. We haven't crossed Canada in a long time and it's a first time for Zeke so it promises to be an amazing time! We hope to see you all there!! We've also now added ordering information on the MERCH page. As I mentioned on that page, not all shirt sizes are always available but we will do our best to keep all sizes and designs in stock. Just email us for the availability and we'll let you know what we have. That said, we won't be filling any orders until we get back from tour! But have no worries because we will get back to you as soon as we can!! Thanks!!

Oct. 7/2004:

It's been a long time since I've updated this thing so...sorry. Just a couple of things to mention. First off is the Initium Elect Vol. 2 compilation CD that has just come out. It's a great compilation with loads of cool bands like Backyard Babies, Sahara Hotnights, Turbonegro, The Bronx, The Stills, and so many more!! We contribute one new song called "Alive Without Control". It's only available when you buy a pair of Initium sunglasses and I think the offer might only be in the US but I'm not quite sure. Just go to the Initium site and look for details. I've been asked about hearing some new songs and I just send those who ask over to our myspace site to listen to a few new songs that we have posted there. In the next little while we're also going to be selling tee-shirts through the site! Once we iron out the details I'll post a little note to let all of you know just how you can get some of our oh-so-swanky Halos junk!! I have saved the best for last - I will be celebrating my birthday in Tacoma, Washington by playing a show with Zeke! Zeke and us have not played together in a long time and Tacoma is full of drunks so it should be a swell time. Cheers!!

Sept. 15/2004:

A few things to mention: First, there is a short interview with yours truly (Jay) at www.ffruk.com (Full Frontal Recordings - out of the UK) that you can check out. Just visit the link and go to the "reviews" section and there it is. Secondly, a few people have heard about a possible Zeke/Black Halos tour in the works for the end of the year and all I can say at this time is that we're still working it out. If I get some definite dates sent to me then I will send them along to all of you.

Sept. 3/2004:

We would like to thank everybody who came to the WakeWest show and made it such an incredible time for us. Some of you may have seen that we had a new guitar player that night. Well we did. We'd like to officially welcome Adam Becvare to the band! We've known Adam for a number of years now and when the guitar slot opened up he offered his assistance (although he'll probably say that we BEGGED him to join)and we jumped at the chance to have him in our band. We've been fans of Adam and his other bands in the past so we thought he would be the perfect addition to our band. We do wish our last guitar player, Davey French all the best as he is an incredible guitarist who is a whole lot of fun to hang around with! He will definitely be missed.

August 25/2004:

The WakeWest show is in 3 days and not like it needs any more of a push because this thing is going to be quite a party already, but if you haven't already got a hold of a ticket we're thinking that you may want to really soon! We are playing on the Friday night show at 8:30 p.m. and you really wouldn't want to miss us. For those that don't know anything about this, the show is at the Plaza of Nations and runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday and has loads of Canadian bands from all over the country and a lot of local bands as well on a few different stages! You can go to www.wakewest.com and see all the details you need there. Seeya!!

August 9/2004:

I'd like to give a big hand to Bradley at The Nerve for putting on one of the most memorable days of the summer! The boat cruise was so much fun and should be done annually! Spread Eagle and John Ford put on some good shows and the DJ was spinning some excellent tunes and lots of dirty punks and rockers showed up in their black clothes to roast in the sun and drink on the top deck where the bands played. Everyone that attended said they had a super fun time and I think next time it's going to be even bigger! People should be ashamed that they missed out on one of the best times of the summer! So next time you see Bradley at the bar, buy him a drink or thank him or something.

July 8/2004:

So here is the deal with the Nerve Magazine Boat Cruise: It's Sunday, August 8th. Boarding time will be 2 p.m. at Barbary Marina (one block west of Canada Place). The cruise itself will be from 3 until 7p.m. The other bands on the bill will be Spread Eagle and John Ford along with DJ My! Gay! Husband! Tickets are available at Scratch, Noize, and Zulu but I don't know how much they are. Info: 604-734-1611 This is NOT an all ages show. There is booze, bands and fun, fun, fun!!! Seeya there!!

July 7/2004:

I believe we are still working on getting an all ages show happening in Vancouver for the very near future but for now we have confirmed that we'll be playing on August 8th on a boat! The Nerve Magazine will be hosting a little party on a boat. I'm uncertain at this time of cost, where/when the boat will be departing from, where the boat will be sailing to and when the boat will be returning but you can be assured that it'll be a really good time! I believe there will be another couple of bands (possibly Spread Eagle and the Red Hot Lovers??) a DJ and I've heard rumour of the Ultravixens Peepshow making an appearance. When any of/all of this is confirmed i'll let you know.

June 30/2004:

We're back from a very long...interesting...tour. It was a little rougher than expected but we managed to keep our heads above water and have ourselves a good time. We want to thank all the cool people we met for the first time, all the friends who showed up to the shows that we haven't seen in a long time, and all the cool clubs/promoters that had us play! And most of all we'd like to thank Pat "Hall Night Long" (from the Iotolas) for filling in on guitar at the very last minute!! Pat did an amazing job and we would not have been able to do the tour without his help. On another note, we'll probably be playing a Vancouver show in the very near future so keep checking back here to find out when and where. Cheers.

May 17/2004:

We leave for tour on Tuesday so you won't see any updates here until we get back. I have added some of the Canadian shows at the end of June. Check the SHOWS page for the places and cities. Also tune into Muchmusic on Sunday May 23rd to Going Coastal to check out an interview from us.

May 12/2004:

Tour is coming up quickly and just in time for this trip we have brand new Black Halos skate decks from Skull Skates!! We'll have a limited amount on tour with us so if you don't get one on tour you can always drop by the Skull Skates store here in Vancouver and pick one up or drop by skullskates.com and order one!! I haven't seen them myself but I believe the deck is of the "bug" design. Check out our Merch section to have a look.

May 7/2004:

I've just changed the guestbook over to something else yet again. The other guestbook just plain sucked. Everybody told me so and I agreed. So now this one works a bit better. Come by and say hello. Oh, and to everybody that showed up at the Croatian Cultural Centre for the show last night -- thank you!! We had a really good time and we want to do more all ages shows here in the future! A reminder to those who are 19+ that next Friday (the 14th) is our Cobalt debut! Yup, we're gonna tear up the Cobalt and have a blast. A big thank you to Wendy Thirteen for having us play!!!

May 4/2004:

I've just added a few more shows for the upcoming tour. Take a look and if you live in one of the cities/towns please keep in mind that we're sometimes looking for a place to crash or a party to go to. Cheers!

Apr. 28/2004:

If any of you missed the Mesa Luna show on the 23rd of March, you can now check out the PHOTOS section to see a new gallery of photos from that show. All the photos were taken by the lovely and talented Laura Murray and we thank her a bunch for letting us put them up on this site.

Apr. 21/2004:

I've just added some more shows so go check out that page and see the additions. Throughout the tour we'll be sharing stages at various locations with Calico System, Haste, 1208, and Scatter The Ashes. I'm not sure yet but I assume many of the shows will be ALL AGES. Whenever I find out that a show will be an all ages show I will post it beside the date. Just keep checking back often for more shows being added and to see if the show will be an all ages one or not.

Apr. 17/2004:

I think the "photos" section should be working. I'll add some more photos soon. I realize there isn't any credit anywhere but the majority of the live photos were taken by Lisa Bell. There were some cool photos of the Mesa Luna show taken by Laura Murray but they're not up here as of yet. Maybe i'll put 'em up later if Laura gives me permission.

Apr. 12/2004:

I've got a number of people asking about the "photos" section of the site and quite honestly i'm trying to fix it but i'm having some problems so you'll have to be patient with me. I may have to send for some help in the way of Sean from Calgary to help me getting it happening as he knows this stuff more than I. But once it's up and running properly you'll see some photos of the band in all our sweaty glory. Ugh.

Apr. 6/2004:

We've just added a load of tour dates coming up in May and June and there will be more added as soon as we know them! Check out the SHOWS page and see if you live anywhere near any of the places and make the trip and come to the show!! As soon as we know exactly who we're playing with on the shows i'll pass the information on to you.

Apr. 2/2004:

We want to thank everybody who came out to the Mesa Luna show and the shows in Whistler, Victoria and Nanaimo. It feels pretty good playing around BC again as we haven't done that in some time. The next Vancouver show looks like it will be May 6th at the Croatian Cultural Centre with Alexisonfire. It's an all ages show and so we hope a lot of you can come out.

Mar. 30/2004:

So the site is finally up and I know there is some glitches here and there but i'm trying to fix that right now. The site isn't all dazzle and flash but it does give everybody the info they want. Or at least I hope it does. Let me know what you think and maybe I can improve upon things in the near future.

Mar. 10/2004:

Well you may not have heard from us in a while but Billy will be appearing on an upcoming track from our friends in The Jet City Fix out of Seattle, WA. Billy went down and sang a few lines with Shane and managed to weasel a meal or two from the guys in trade for his howl. I'm not sure when their record will be out but you can always check their website out for the info.

Feb. 26/2004:

Well we finally went in and recorded some new songs!! Last weekend saw us getting together in Abbottsford, BC to record with the fabulously talented Jason Solyom (of The Spitfires). We managed to get down four new songs and the basic tracks of a couple more that will be done by the end of March. Jason did a wonderful job as did we knocking it all out in a day. We think the new songs sound really cool and i'm certain you'll like them too. As for a date where we can see some new Halos music?? We don't know that yet but we'll let you know as soon as we know. Cheers!! Oh yeah...Davey bought a new guitar that he's pretty excited with.

Feb. 9/2004:

We'd like to welcome our newest addition to the fold -- Denyss McKnight! Denyss tried out for the bass spot with one hour of practice and then three live shows! Under the pressure he pulled through. One more show in Bellingham and then he was asked to join officially. So be nice to him and buy him drinks!
